The Externsteine, an important natural and cultural monument in Germany, are a sacred place of power located in the southern Teutoburg Forest that fascinated both Johann Wolfgang Goethe and Wilhelm Grimm.
Surrounded by wondrous trees, earth creatures and luminous energies, countless people of all cultures and faiths still make pilgrimages to this mysterious and legendary place, adjacent to a small and enchanted lake - it is said that the stone formation was a sacred temple in ancient times and was also the site of the Saxon Sanctuary Irminsul, which was destroyed by Charlemagne in 772.
